BREYER Animal Creations began in 1950 with a western horse made for the Mastercrafter Clock Company. Breyer retained the mold and began selling horse models to Woolworth Co. The western horse became #57. In 1984, Reeves International Inc. bought Breyer Animal Creations and moved the factory to New Jersey where it operates to this day.
Breyer models start with clay models sculpted by artists. The clay model is then made into a resin prototype from which steel molds are made. The molds are used in an injection molding machine where cellulose acetate pellets are melted and injected into the mold under pressure. The plastic model is cooled, deburred, polished and painted. Airbrushes are used for most of the painting. Final, small details are added by paintbrush.
Each Breyer model has a distinctive color, pattern, shape, name, number, etc. assigned to it. Many may come from the same mold but will have a different color, pattern, name and number. Some Breyers are made for special purposes in limited edition while others have been produced year after year. Every year Breyer puts out an extensive catalog of new and retained models. Four sizes are made: Traditional series, Classics, Little Bits and Stablemates. We offer only Traditional size.
